Modular Realms Response to COVID-19

I know that we are all thinking about what has been happening in the world at the moment so I thought it would be nice if I shared with you what we’re doing at Modular Realms to try help out.

As some of you know, at Modular Realms we are bridging two countries. As director and designer, I live and work in New Zealand but most of the 3D printers and manufacturing capabilities are in the UK. As such, we have been dividing the help we can give between both countries and both health care systems!

In the UK:
We have been using our resources and 3D printers to make face shields and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) both as part of The Big Print (3D Crowd UK) and for distributing amongst our local community. We have also been distributing some face shields to rest homes and vulnerable people without PPE. The idea behind this is to provide "Plan B" protection to care workers.

Of course, everyone who has access to an N95 respirator and the correct PPE equipment should be using that, however for those with nothing at all the face shields and masks we have been making can still add a layer of life-saving protection. It has been a real privilege to be able to help in whatever way we can and it genuinely feels great to be part of a huge community of makers and small businesses coming together to help their communities.

In New Zealand:
I am proud to say that I have also been able to help in some small part in the administrative side of Project Faceshield New Zealand, assisting outreach with universities and District Health Boards as well as other community care workers. Some of the community work we have done is covered in this article:

I am really proud to have had the chance to work alongside these amazing people as part of their team! I have learnt a lot from it but beyond that it has just been amazing to see everyone come together from all different backgrounds and walks of life to pool ideas and work as a team to solve problems.

I have also saved a sneaky little announcement until last!

We will be launching a kickstarter to preorder our terrain Tuesday 21st April!!!

We have now established our supply lines and assigned our future printing time after COVID has run its course enough to ensure we can both continue to help our community and progress successfully with the next phase of the business. The prelaunch page will be going up Monday. I have been sitting on this for a while and I am SO excited to finally start sharing this will you guys!

So until Monday, stay safe, stay sane and remember to look after each other.
